For this QKids, we visited the students of Prins Willem Alexander School as we had heard they had just had two classrooms renovated (which you can read more about inside this issue). We got to ask them this question: "What did you do during the weekend as Tropical Storm Maria passed St. Maarten?"
Adia Laurent, 11, Class A04-5: The storm did not affect my weekend. I went out to the cultural centre and watched a play. I stayed home on Saturday, as it was raining hard. My mom bought a lot of food in preparation for the storm, which I enjoyed. I thought we would have had Monday free from school.
Jaqueline Woods, 13, Class AO6-7: I thought it would be a big storm. We prepared by buying food and closing the shutters. It didn't really hit the way I had expected. During the weekend, I went over to my baby cousin to play with her and I spent time with the rest of my family and friends; we even played a little ball in the rain.
Davidson Charles, 11, Class PO6-7: There was a lot of rain with the storm; I thought it was coming and I heard it was strengthening. I stayed at home and watched the news during the weekend.
Dilian Nicaela, 11, Class AO4-5: I closed the shutters, plugged in the radio and listened to the news to hear if it was going to pass. I slept a bit on the weekend. I also heard the thunder and saw the lightning, but my weekend was still good.
